I update so infrequently that every time I do I feel like Jim Anchower in The Onion. Let me rap at you for a minute. Not too much going on writing-wise these days, but I have been working on two Movie/TV nostalgia related games right now, the first of which I’m going to try to Kickstart this summer. If that campaign is successful I’m going to work on releasing the second one, which is a little more ambitious and more involved design-wise. I’ll make sure to post the campaign for the first one once it’s live in case anybody reading is interested in it. Apart from that, I’m not sure what I want to do with writing, if anything, but we’ll see.
I’m currently watching the pilot episode of Thirtysomething. It’s available on YouTube in case you’d like to check it out. The first episode debuted on September 29, 1987, my seventh birthday, and all I really ever knew about it was that my parents liked it and Timothy Busfield from Field of Dreams and Little Big League is in it. Watching it now, I have a few initial impressions:
- So many of these scenes feel like a Folgers commercial from the late 80s
- Why are other people always laying on Michael and Hope’s bed with them?
- The music cues in this show are WILD. They completely envelop the scenes.
- Talking about young people partying outside, one of the characters laments that she doesn’t even know anybody born in the 1960s. This is how I feel about anybody born after 1995.
So of course I bought the first season on DVD. I will say if nothing else it’s a fascinating glimpse into the lives of boomers in the mid-to-late 80s, people essentially my parents’ age.
Be well and thanks for reading. If you happen to be on Blue Sky and want small daily doses of my inanities, I’m 80sbaby.bsky.social on there.
